Hi there!

I'm Stace..and WOW...that's a great word, 'cuz "Wow has my life changed!!"

Radio's been my dream since I was a little girl, and I feel very blessed to have been able to be on the air since 19--well, its been a long time, we'll just leave it at that!

When I'm not on the air, you'll find me hanging with my family--which includes new husband, Gary, our son Dakota, our furry daughter, Penny the Wonder Dachsund, our furry son & Doug the Good Doggie.  Since marrying Gary, I've become "Bonus Mom" to 12, yes 12 kids!  I've also been blessed with 7, yes 7, grandbabies!!  Including 2 sets of twins!!  Its sooo cool!!

I love going to the movies, getting my nails done, and driving our son crazy with my fascination with Days of Our Lives and Reality TV...

Some things about me:

I'm the youngest of 4 kids
I raised 2 of my nieces, and consider them my daughters

I'm a HUGE supporter of anything having to do with kids, pets, and Vets

I'm in several music videos, including "When The Sun Goes Down."
None of them were filmed in Nashville
If I wasn't in radio, I'd be a pastry chef--I love to cook!

Thank you for welcoming me with open arms!

Sept 2, 2010

I'm going home to Seattle on Saturday.

For a couple of reasons...first, we have a diagnosis...its adenocarcinoma.  A glandular cancer that strikes the lungs.  Smokers are 13 times more likely to get this cancer than nonsmokers.  In fact, I have discovered that it is the most common type of lung cancer for smokers, and people around second hand smoke.  It's nasty, too.  15% survival rate after 5 years.  We are lucky it hasn't hit my dad's brain.  Pet scan (total body scan) is to be performed today, to see if it has spread.

That's part one.

Part 2, my best friend's mom died last night.

I'm exhausted.  She wasn't sick.

This was unexpected.  So its time, I think, that I go home.  I have to help my friend, like I know that one day, she will be helping me.

It's the only way we humans can survive...with each other.

As I was having a huge meltdown yesterday, (yes, i was) it was occuring to me, that I really do need to find someone to talk to about this.  I fear that my stress is too much for those around me...So thats my next step...I will be looking for resources...maybe you are going through the same thing...maybe its not cancer, maybe its a divorce...sometimes you just need someone who is not attached, to listen that's where I am thinking that I am.

We'll see

Until then...Don't stop believin...

Nothing much to say today...

Except i feel stressed

Very stressed.  Everything is agitating me.  I don't know what to feel. I've cried a lot today.  At work.  Don't you hate crying at work?  I do.

I feel alone.  I know I'm not, but I do.  Today we find out what kind of lung cancer daddy has.  I pray its not "small cell."  Thats the fast moving kind. The evilest of the evil. Please God...I keep Praying...Please God No...

I have to pull myself together.  I don't know how to do this.  One step at a time.

As Journey sing--Don't Stop Believin'  Hold on to that feelin'

We're at the Cumberland Co Fair All this week!!!

The gates open at 10:00--that's when you can check out the exhibits--gotta say, I love the giant fruits and veggies!  I'm fascinated!  How do they do that?  And how do they get them shipped there?  It's amazing!  Brings me back to my FFA days!  And YES I WAS in fact, i was even a REGIONAL officer!  Granted, I competed in speech.  Bascially, I did the extemporaneous contests...meaning I got to pick 3 topics, choose 1, have 15 minutes to prep, and then give a  5 minute speech.  Translation:  Stace can BS her way out of anything, and always could.  Proof positive that EVERYONE has a special gift.

Ask me about camping sometime...definitely NOT one of my "special gifts..."

But nonetheless, I loved my FFA experience, and I still have my jacket, and my pins!

Speaking of the FAIR--its ARMBAND night every night, so you can get sufficiently scared/dizzy/crazy on the rides for just 20 bucks every night!  LOVE IT!

AND THE BEST PART (no, I'm not talking about the fried OREOS...although you KNOW i LOVE THAT!!) stop by and see us by the MIX RIG...and you could win a pretty cool prize pack, tickets...or even the $99.00 in cash that I'll be drawing for on Tuesday morning!!  WHOO HOO!!!

There's more giveaways goin on Mix 99.3!!  I'll also have tickets to see the homeopener for the UT Vols!! Check it out tomorrow and Thursday for your chance to win!!

Finally...the serious stuff...this is the cancer blog.  My family's personal journey as my dad starts his battle with lung cancer.  This is all about the stuff as we go through it.  You never know when cancer or whatever illness or hardship hits your family.  You just see the outside--the family being all brave.  Lemme tell you--it looks that way.  But inside...its a different story.  We are all scared.  We are all holding in the words and feelings that NONE of us dare to think about.  This is serious stuff.

My parents are lifelong smokers.  If you smoke, I'm not going to preach.  That's not my style.  You know the risks.  They did, too.  But they were hooked long ago.  My dad was 10 when he started--he's 73.  You do the math.  He hasn't smoked since he collapsed over a week ago.  My mom is down to about 4 a day.  Its a start.  We'll take it.

Non smokers are affected by lung cancer...and some smokers never get cancer.  That's how random and evil this disease is.  It fools you.  It makes you feel comfortable--it will never happen to you.  A false sense of security.  Guess what.  BOOM.  It hits.  When it does, you're in for the ride, literally, of your life.

According to the American Cancer Society, there are 60 known carcinogens in cigarettes. So sure, everything can give you cancer...but here are an extra 60 in every puff...and they say every cigarette shortens your life by 1 day.

These are the thoughts that have been filling my mind and my heart.  Every free minute, every free thought.

It's hard to concentrate.  I'm scattered.  Normally, I'm pretty focused. I'm shaking.  Normally, I'm pretty stable.

I'm a daddy's girl, who has my mother's resolve.

I live many states away

I worry about not having the money to make it home in time

I worry about not being able to help my mother--she doesn't drive

I worry what will my mom do without my dad--they've been married forever, they do everything together...

I have a lot of worry

I want my mom

This is the stuff no one tells you...and you know what i'm finding?  As i share it with other people who have been through the same thing?  Its totally normal.

No one tells you're just expected to figure it out.

So, I'm gonna be straight up...and do it real I've done everything.  Hey, I had weight loss surgery filmed with a live TV crew...I mean, how bad can this be?

Bad, thats how bad...I mean, at least I was under during the surgery and I had morphine after...this is raw pain.

But if it gives someone else the handbook I don't have, then so be it...or better yet...if someone is thinking about quitting smoking, or has that cough, or has lost weight and can't explain it and finally goes to the doc, then it did some good...

but this is my family's story...and hopefully, our victory, in my dad's battle with lung cancer.

Aug 30, 2010

It's amazing how much your world can change in a week.  My dad has lung cancer, but we don't know anything else...what bad...anything else...We are all trying to be mom is a rock...and daddy is being the same daddy that he has always been...funny, upbeat...

how do people do this?  I don't know

I need the playbook.

i'll be honest with you...hubby and i had a HUGE blow out.  He and I had to figure it out.  I was breaking down...just uncontrollably...and he couldn't understand it.  I get how marriages are destroyed.  We had to come to an understanding and sort of go to separate corners to find perspective.   We are really on the same team...but we had to understand where each was coming from.  He had to understand that I have never dealt with this before...he has...his dad to him, its not the be all end me, its all so scary.

You may think I'm's why...NO ONE TELLS YOU THIS.  Its VERY SCARY.  Everyone tries to be brave.  You won't be.  You will have very dark moments. Guess what...its normal.  You won't sleep.  You won't eat.  Its part of the deal.  It's not just your dad that has cancer... you all do.

But together, you can all heal, with God's Grace

So my dad has lung cancer

we don't know what kind...we don't know the many unanswered questions.

did you know there are 60 KNOWN carcinogens in tobacco?  I sound like one of those scary public service announcements

maybe i am

one of them could be killing my dad

thats all i can think about

i shouldnt let those negative thoughts in...

he will beat this

he has to

my dad has cancer

i  keep having to say that

i keep thinking if i say it, it wont be true.  when does it go away?

he goes to the oncologist on sept 1st

all i can think is that this could have been prevented. sure everything causes cancer...but THIS was preventable  get help

August 23, 2010

It's been more than a month of no blog, but I think the updates are all in and we're bug free!  Yay!  Thanks to the guys at Ciphertek!

What a crazy month!  Grandmas robbing banks, kids going back to school...and my dad in the hospital!

So let's get that out of the way.

He's having a biopsy at 8am PT.  They found a mass the size of a baseball on his left lung.  He's a life long smoker...both he and my mom.  The docs think its cancer...but of course we won't know until the biospy is in, that won't be until Wednesday, more than likely.

I'm here cuz my mom won't let me come home.

They think it will freak my dad out...I get that...but its killing me.  I'm trying to be strong, but its just killing me...I want to be there in Washington, so badly...I'm trying to stay positive, and I'm positive whatever this is will get doubt...but I want my mom.  Does that make sense?  When you hurt, your mom makes it all better, and I gotta say, I hurt!!  I want my mom!

So...I will keep ya posted...but for now...we're ready to battle!  I will say this...if you've gone this through're a ROCKSTAR.  I have so much respect!  It's brutal.  The unknown...its just gut wrenching.

On the brighter side...I have been a couponing maniac!  It's become my new obsession...But I'm saving like crazy!  Some sites that have gotten me started:

That's where I got started, and they were GREAT resources to link you everywhere else.  I spend about 1-2 hours a day, and have saved probably $300 this week...and spent $100 on groceries...I won't buy anymore cereal for MONTHS...the only thing I need now is butter, and thats pretty much it...some produce next week...thats it!  Amazing!

I've got enough snacks to last through the holidays!  Seriously!  Its amazing!  I bought chex mix and gardettos for .38 cents...and got Sobes for .20cents...some for free!  unreal!  You have to check this out!

Have a great day...and God Bless!

:) Stace

ps--if you smoke, or know someone who does...please please...tell them you love them enough to ask them to quit.

I didn't want to be a nag either.

but i dont want to lose my dad because i wasn't a nag

...think about it

Yayayayayay!! My blog is back!

Thanks to Ben for fixing it!

I want to thank everyone who took the time and went to the Live with Regis and Kelly website and nominated me for their women in radio co-host contest...while I wasn't named one of their top 100 finalists, one of my dear friends was--Beth Bacall, in NYC...I think she has a great shot at making the final cut...if you get a chance, please go and vote for her  Thanks!  :)

So, i'm sick...again.  I hate this, I really do...I catch everythiiiiing!  Its so annoying!  This time its a sinus infection.  Whenever I'm sick I sound like a cross between Kirstie Alley and Kermit the Frog..if you were ever wonderin' what would happen if they hooked you know..

Son has started conditioning for football...he'll be in 8th grade.  I gotta admit, I only raised girls, so this is new to me.  The only thing i know about football is cheerleading.  should be an interesting season.  He is a full back.  At Crab Orchard.  Other than got me...

Thought this was interesting:

40% of us say we've been hit or nearly hit by someone distracted by a cell...will it make you not drive and talk/text..I'm good about the no text...but i do most of my talking while driving...sorry if i've almost hit you!

Glad to be back in the bloggosphere!

:) Stace

How would you like to win some really cool KRUPS APPLIANCES?!  SOUND GOOD?!?  I THOUGHT SO!!  Well....

Regis and Kelly are having a contest...they are looking for YOU to nominate your favorite female radio personality to come to New York City to be a Co-Host for the day for their Women of Radio Co-Host of the Day I am asking for your help...and I've made it pretty easy for ya...

Basically, you go to their website, then  click on the Women of Radio icon.  Then copy  and paste this info into the email...

Dear Regis and Kelly:

I am nominating Stace in the Morning from WPBX, Mix 99.3, in Crossville, TN to be your Woman of Radio Co-Host for the Day!  Stace is a mom to 15 kids--and never even gave birth!  She raised 3 nieces and has 12 bonus kids...including 6 adopted children.  In addition to her kids, Stace has 7 grandbabies, including 2 sets of twins...all this at 41 years old!  When she's not getting up at 3am for the morning show, Stace also works as the midday host for Peg Broadcasting's Country Station, 102.5 WOW Country, and as Assistant News Director...She's involved with several charities, raising money and awareness for causes including St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, The United Fund, and the Salvation Army.  You can check out her blog online at  And thanks, for helping to put our small town, the Golf Capital of Tennessee, on the Map!

***Make sure you end your email with your name, addy, phone number, and that they can reach you, just in case your entry is chosen!!  and THANK YOU!

How about some food?  I'm all about it!  Especially this time of year...I know I cannot get enough roasted corn on the cob.  What is it about corn on the cob, when it is grilled?  Man oh man!!  And all the fresh veggies!  I wish I was talented enough to grow a garden!!  I love making zucchini bread, grilling veggies...anything fresh fresh fresh!  Its the best!! And the fruit!  Love love love it!

That said, here are a few of my fave recipes...

Mom's Potato Salad

Appx 1 C Hellmans Mayo (Best Foods for West Coast Folks)

Appx 10 Med Russet Potatoes, cleaned, peeled, cut into alrge chunks, boiled to soft, but not mushy stage--completely cooled...very important!

8 large eggs, hard boiled, shells the best 4, cut up 4, slice best 4 in even slices for garnish

garlic powder

5 ribs of celery, cleaned, chopped in small pieces

1 medium red onion, chopped in small pieces

couple spoon fulls of sweet pickle relish

1 large can of black olives, sliced

few squirts yellow mustard

Combine all ingredients with about half the mayo and start adding the salt, pepper, garlic and mayo a bit at a time...I keep incorporating it and the mustard until I get and the spices where I like it...This is a preference thing.   For me, the key is the crunch of the red onion balanced by the celery and the little tang of the relish...but the secret is that the potatoes are COLD.  Hot potatoes will ruin your potato salad!  Have fun!! Add more or less mayo depending on how wet you like it...remember, you can always add, but you can't take it go sparingly!!

Stace's Baked Beans

2 large cans of Baked Beans (I like Bush's Honey Brown Sugar Ones)

2 large cans of pork and beans

1 small Bottle of BBQ Sauce ( I like the honey brown sugar for this...I usually get whatever is on sale)

1 small Bottle of Ketchup (again, whatever is on sale)

About 1 cup of brown sugar

1 Small jar of grape jelly (the cheap stuff, again)

1 package of bacon (Cheap here, too--I want the fatty stuff, cuz its gonna melt into my beans)

1 of those plastic oven baking dishes--(i buy these when they are on sale--they are a great deal...completely non stick, and completely dishwasher safe/freezer safe/reusable....perfect for this recipe that can be really sticky...just remember to put a cookie sheet under it!  You can even mix it in the pan!

Pour all beans in the pan...juices and all...pour entire bottle of ketchup and bbq sauce in, and mix in grape jelly and the brown sugar...if you like it sweeter, add more brown sugar...if you like a kick, add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes or even tobasco sauce...but i like it sweeter...

chop three or four slices of bacon finely, and mix into beans...lay the rest of the strips over the beans...bake in a preheated oven at 350 for appx 1 hour or until beans are bubbly and bacon is thoroughly cooked...Can be served hot, at room temp, or cold...enjoy!

Hot Spinach and Artichoke Dip (like what you get at the Restaurants!)

1 can of artichoke hearts (not marinated!!) chopped until small chunks

2 8oz pkgs of cream cheese, left out appx 1/2 hour to soften (or 10 seconds in microwave--watch it close!)

1/2 Cup Mayo

1/2 Cup of grated romano cheese

1/2 Cup of grated parmesean cheese

1 Cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese (for top)

1 small box of frozen spinach, thawed, and totally drained

Salt, pepper, minced garlic, dried basil, and garlic salt and powder to taste

Mix cream cheese, mayo, spices, cheese (except mozzarella) together until creamy and well incorporated...gently fold in artichokes and spinach.  Spoon into a well sprayed baking dish, and sprinkle the Mozz on top...Bake at 350 for appx 30-35 min until top is golden and bubbly.  Serve with pita chips, bagel chips, Bread, tortills chips...its all good!  YUM!

Send your fave recipe to:  you may be picked to win a pair of tickets to Stonehaus Winery's showing of Casablanca on July 9th!  From the Plateau's Best Variety, Mix 99.3!

Thurs June 24, 2010

Good Morning!  I gotta start off with a recipe that Joe Bennett emailed to me today, cuz its too good NOT to share--check this out!

In a medium saucepan, over high heat, bring water, sugar and honey to a boil, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool. Stir in the lemon juice and food coloring. Fill blender with half of the watermelon chunks and half of the cooled syrup. Cover and puree until smooth, pour in to 8 cup or larger saucepan or mixing bowl. Repeat with the other half of the watermelon and syrup, then combine. Pour into small cups (butter cups or small plastic cups -- you’ll need about 16). Cover, freeze and eat.

all i can say is YUMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does that sound perfect for next Sunday's 4th of July or what!?!  Crazy Good!!  By the way...if you have a great go-to recipe for the 4th (or anytime!) email it to me at

I don't know about you, but I am all about the "staycation" right now.  Our big splurge was Dollywood season gotta love those...!  We are planning to get our money outta them, too!  Hubby and son are daredevils, and I just really love the atmosphere and family friendliness of Dollywood.  I love the shows, and feel that for the one time shot, we really get our money's worth--especially going at Christmas, which is truly magical.  Last night we went St George Marina for their Fish Fry...9 bucks for adults, all you can eat...(gotta say, hubby can put away some catfish!) The best part was socializing with the locals and the visitors alike.  It was a perfect evening--humidity was low, and my son was enjoying fishing off of the pier.  He caught a decent sized fish, and gave it to some it was a great night.  I loved sitting on the lawn chairs and watching the sun set with great friends and family.  For 9 bucks, can't ask for much better.  No dishes to wash.  It was great!   We plan on heading out this weekend, too!  Why is it that by living here, we fail to take advantage of the wonderful parks and lakes all around us?  Note to self...less indoors...more outdoors...we'll see how that works out.

Anyway, if you haven't yet. I'm asking for your help in nominating me for Regis and Kelly's Women of Radio Co-Host for a Day Contest...Scroll down to yesterday's blog, you'll see everything needed to copy and paste to their site...The nominator who's entry is chosen wins some cool there's definitely something in it for you...Thank you for your help!

 Have a great day!

:) Stace

Wednesday June 23, 2010

So, its hot.

And what do I make for dinner last night, in all my wisdom, my infamous pasta.  I gotta say, it does rock.  But in fairness, I learned it from my Uncle Pizza Man (RIP). Its a mixture between his recipe that he taught me when I was about 13 and my mother's, with Rachel Ray's techique for cooking the meatballs (just roll and bake at 350 for about 1/2 hour--use the non-stick tin oil needed, they wont stick, you don't have to fry, and they are PERFECT every time..LOVE LOVE LOVE Rachel RAY!)

BTW--despite what mom says, I DO use Uncle Pete's dash of sugar to cut the acidity on the tomato sauce...and despite Uncle Pete's insistance that oregano in the sauce makes it Pizza sauce, I still use a touch...voila...its MY sauce now!

See...I can turn ANY conversation to food!  What on earth did we do before Food Network!?

Speaking of which...tonight is the Weds NIgh Catfish Fry at the St George Marina!! WHOO HOO!  Fish, Hushpupies, the Lake!!  Going out with the Hubby and son to take it all in...Son is psyched cuz our son-in-law gifted him a brand new fishing pole while they were here and he can't wait to test it out.  Hubby is excited about, well, the adult beverages with the fish, and me....well, just bring on the water!  I have my new purple noodle, and I'm ready to go!

How would you like to win some really cool KRUPS APPLIANCES?!  SOUND GOOD?!?  I THOUGHT SO!!  Well....

OH yeah...we're still looking for pics of your kid's forts, clubhouses and tree houses.  My hubby is a master craftsman...I thought it would be a good idea to have him call in, so that he could possibly give the kids some good he started talking about digging holes and making tunnels I knew I had to stop him.  Somehow the thought of kids burying themselves just didn't seem safe to me a crazy...or just a mom...BTW thanks to my friend Claire and her cutie patootie daughter for the inspiration for the idea!

Thurs June 17

If you're like a lot of've been running the AC...and got a bit of a sticker shock when you saw this month's's some tips from Women's Day Mag on how to lower the bill...

Set your thermostat at 68 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 60 degrees Fahrenheit at night.

  1. Keep lamps and TVs away from air-conditioning thermostats. The heat produced can cause the air conditioner to run longer.
  2. Reduce trips to the refrigerator. Each time the door is opened, up to 30% of the cold air can escape.
  3. Take a look at your furniture arrangement. Make sure vents and radiators aren't blocked by sofas, chairs or other items.
  4. Remove lint from the dryer filter. A dirty one can increase energy use by up to 30%.
  5. Give your home an energy audit. Go to Home Energy Saver to calculate your home's energy use by zip code and find out the best ways for you to save energy.

The grandbabies are coming today!  Thank goodness my carpets are shampooed!  Of course, they made it a point to show us the filter...i think they do that to ensure repeat business...lemme just say...DONE!  Im convinced!! that stuff was just NASTY!!

Oh yeah...hubby wants his daughter to bring him a "beef sandwich" from his fave place in I nuts to think that this thing is gonna be extremely foul after about 9 hours of travel time in airports and rental cars?  Hubby says this happens all the time...okayyyyyyy

Have a great one!

Wednesday June 2nd, 2010

I remember when school was out...all my friends would walk down to the school and they would have these really cool summer programs with arts and crafts and all of us kids would just hang all day...we would wander back home about 4:50, just in time to wash up for dinner.  After dinner, it was time to jump in the pool until night time...Mind you, I lived in Southern California, and in an apartment complex, so we had very long days, we lived about a half mile from school, and we had a pool in the apartment complex.

I guess times have changed.

I feel sorry for my son.  Sure, we live in a pretty good neighborhood.  There are some kids around, and yes, he could definitely ride his bike to the park.  Since he's 14, and he has a cell phone, I have no issues with that.  He simply lacks the will.  I wonder why this is.  Back in the day, there weren't video games.  The best we had was a pinball machine, and they were a pretty big deal...arcades few and far between...and quarters were a pretty big deal...This was BEFORE PacMan, mind you!!  No MTV...and TV during the day was all about boring soap operas...and back then, they were booooooring!

I remember waking up and spening the entire day in the pool.  That's just what we did!  I can't imagine spending the entire day inside looking at a computer screen!  I would have gone nuts!

We always seemed to find something to do.  Something outside.  We made our own fun.  We used our imaginations...not someone elses.  Maybe that's what is bothering me today...and I don't know what the solution is.

I just know it didn't cost us money to be a kid then.  I give my parents lots of credit.  Thanks mom and dad!!

Christmas is just over 6 months away...just sayin'...

Don't ya just love humidity?  If you're anything at all like me, your hair is looking like a labradoodle that needs a trip to the groomer.  Criminey!  NOT a good look!

Went to see Shrek 3 yesterday afternoon!  LOVED IT!  I will miss Shrek and the gang sooo much!  You gotta respect a movie that the whole family likes a LOT--one that your 14 year old son is NOT embarassed to with you to... I know the day is not too far off when that's just not going to happen anymore...and that makes me sad, so any opportunity we have to share these moments are really special!

I'm learning:  Boys are really different than girls.  Case in point; shoe shopping.  Son needed tennis shoes.  It went like this:

Me:  "Son, what size do you wear?"

Son:  "I dunno"

Me:  "Well, look on the bottom"

Son:  "They are all worn out and flopping"

Me:  "How long have they been like that"

Son: "I dunno"

Me:  " you like the blue ones?"

Son: "I dunno"

Me:  "How about the red stripes?"

Son:  "I dunno"

Me: "What about the grey ones?"

Son: "I don't care"

Me:  "How about the black ones"

Son: "I dunno"

Me:  "What about the slip ons?"

Son: "They are just shoes..."  get the point.

I am learning that boys are very different from girls..!!!

(singing in my head, cuz you realllllly don't wanna hear me singing out loud...)

.....School's Out for summer....schoools out forrrevvver....

yeah, my son's soooooo happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

me, not so much!

(actually, not entirely true...I'm just more of a winter girl!)

First up, I would just like to say:  Memorial Day is sooo much more than a day for hanging out around the grill.  If you have served our country, are serving, are a family member of someone who's served, is serving, are a Vet, or has Made the Ultimate Sacrifice

Please remember that there is a Memorial Day Program at 11am at Veteran's Park on Monday at 11am.  There will be limited seating, so please being your lawn chairs.  My husband was a Marine, served during Viet Nam.  My father wanted to serve, but couldn't, because of a disability.  My brother was in the Army, my grandfathers were both in WWII...I had grandfathers in the Civil War--both sides...TO make the decision to choose to leave your family and friends to risk everything to serve your country is awe-inspiring to me.  Again, thank you.  To the families left behind while your loved ones are away, your hearts and courage are so inspiring...thank you for all you do.  Again, God Bless.

And God Bless the 278th!

Okay...that said, We are joined this morning by the newest Real Housewife of NYC, Sonja Morgan!  Check out her website at

Have a great & safe weekend!

Imagine not being able to read this blog.  Okay, not that you would miss the excitement of this blog, but that you couldn't many people, including a very dear friend of mine, are in that very situation.  Many, like my friend, are what you would call, functionally literate.  She drives a very nice car, you would see her with her would never notice anything...but she has never written a check...she doesn't know how.  She is just now learning!  She is a part of the Cumberland Adult Reading Council's literacy program...its a free, one on one program, where they are teaching her how to read and write...even teaching her what she needs to know so that she can eventually get her GED!  She is soooo excited!

Well, the Council is hosting a Scabble Tournament to raise money for this great program that is helping my friend and so many like I'm so excited to be on board to help out!  I'm forming "TEAM STACE!" And I would love to have a bunch of Team mates!  Get your friends together!!  It's $25 to enter, seniors and students are $20...and observers are $10...that incudes trophies, door prizes, and a light lunch...if you would like to join with me here:

If you would like more info on the tournament or you know of someone who would benefit from this great program, please call Terri Bond @ 931-337-5809

I think Celebrity Apprentice Got it RIGHT!  Not only did Bret Michaels win, but Holly Robinson-Peete's charity, the Holly-Rod Foundation received an additional $250,000 from Snapple...that's a win-win...Perfect ending to a great season! LOVED IT!

Due to scheduling conflicts, Jill Zarin from the Real Housewives of New York will join us tomorrow!!  Don't miss it!

Thanks to Dolly Parton for granting me so much time with her on Saturday...She is such a lovely woman, and I will forever hold in my heart that I was told to sit my A## down on a stool by an American Icon...Here's the story:

I was interviewing her...i was crouching down next to her, since they sort of accomodated me at the last minute...(thank you, by the way, Dollywood Folks!!)  Dolly said I shouldnt have to bow down to her and i said it would be my honor...she asked her people to get me a chair, and i said I was fine...she insisted...again, I said I was fine. not wanting her to go to any trouble...But sure enough someone came running with a stool...and she told me to "Sit my, well you know what " on the da## stool!"  of course she was smiling and giggling the whole time...!  I will say this, since everyone is asking, she is more lovely in person...and no, its not the makeup...its her!  She is truly glowing!  And TINY!

That said, her Imagination Library Program has given away its 25th million book this year...and she gave away the net proceeds from the Dollywood and Dixie Stampede Gates this weekend to Flood Relief in Nashville...!  Thank You Dolly!  Dollywood Celebrates 25 years this year...Its incredible....She says many people told her it couldn't be done...HAHAHHA!  Never underestimate this force of nature!

Last week of school in Cumberland County!  Wow...where did the time go!!

Happy Mt St Helen's Day!

Yes, it was this day, in 1980 that Mty St Helen's showed what a little pristine volcano could reallllly do... you wanna's some pics:

Yakima Washington, my hometown, and no, that is NOT snow, that's ash!!After the Eruption

Before the Eruption

During the eruption

Mt St Helen's still gets cranky from time to time, and lets off fact, it will even kick off some volcanic rock...pretty amazing to me.  We all pray that Mt Rainier behaves itself...Its a monster as far as volcanoes go...and should it erupt, it would be very, very bad.

I am decompressing from this week's season finale's.  Survivor is done, HOUSE ended last night. Celebrity Apprentice ends this week...Thank goodness for Days Of Our never goes away

Hello, Again!

I was in a fit of cleaning this doesn't happen this often...I have to admit...I'm not the "spring cleaning" when it happens, my husband knows to take advantage...thankfully, we got a lot done, and I feel so much better!

Thanks to the hubby--he is really great about looking up recipes...he found one for "cheesburger pie."  I made it last night, with modifications, cuz I modify everything...Its super easy, and was realllly good.  You won't lose any weight with this one, but its a great go-to recipe on a hectic night...I served it with the 90 cal vegie steamers (love em!) and a whole wheat pasta salad I had left over from the night before so at least I could pretend to be a bit healthy...

Stace's Variation of Cheeseburger Pie:

1 pound ground beef

1 med onion

1 c milk

1/2 c bisquick

1 c shredded cheddar cheese

2 large eggs

salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste

Preheat Oven to 400

Spray a Glass Pie Plate (I used a 9' deep dish) with non stick spray

brown 1 lb ground beef (i used 80/20) with 1 medium onion...season as you like...I used lots of fresh black pepper, garlic and coarse sea salt.  Cook until the beef is browned through.  When done, drain, and pour mixture into the pie plate.  Cover with the cheese.  If you use more than the cup, no one is gonna hurt ya!!  I did, and it was GREAT!

in a small bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup of Bisquick, 1 cup of milk, (i used whole milk) and 2 eggs

Pour the Bisquick mixture over the meat and cheese mixture

Bake in oven for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown.

Let set for a couple of minutes before slicing

**My son put ketchup on can eat this like you would a cheeseburger...pickles, whatever...I thought it was great just as it was...I think it would be great doubled and tripled as a casserole...maybe even adding pasta to it?  I might have to try that

We are looking for you to take the challenge and join us as we commit to a life of Random Acts of Kindness!  Share yours!

Coming this week on the Mix 99.3 Morning Show:

Maria Kanellis Joins us again from the Celebrity Apprentice!  She is on Team Holly as it comes down to Bret Michaels and Holly Robinson-Peete.  Its the final challenge...How does she think it will all go down?  Find out in this MIX-Clusive Interview!

Also, like a lot of folks, I need to lose some neice is getting married in July, and I wanna look good for her wedding...I am gonna try this eating right for your blood type, but i dont know what my blood type i'm getting it typed...on the air..hey, if i can do it, anyone can...We'll see how that goes tomorrow!

Have a great day!

If you've ever been blessed by a random act of kindness, then you know that can really make your whole day!  Yesterday I had one happen to me...just something really small, but it made me think, "what if everyone took a small moment to pay it forward...what kind of an impact could we make?"

So...that's the challenge for today...

Take a moment today and pay it forward!  Maybe you but a cup of coffee while you're in the drive thru for the person in the car behind you like the caller we talked to today...or you help the person carrying too many teenager did for the person who called us earlier...or maybe someone offers you the newspaper when they are finished with it...Maybe you bake some cookies with your children and take them to the nursing homes or police, sheriff, and fire stations...they would all be appreciative...

Finally...I sure hope to see ya tomorrow as we celebrate the grand opening of the Dr Carl T Duer Sr Soccer Complex!  We'll be there broadcasting live from 11-1

I've been processing what's been happening in Nashville.

I make no secret of the fact that i am from Seattle.  That's where my parents and my family best friend is is home.  However, from the first time I stepped off the plane in Nashville, I felt like I knew right where I was...and I made it a goal to one day live there.  It was a huge dream of mine.  I lived in Spring Hill, about 35 miles South of Nashville, for 5 years prior to moving here to Cumberland County, and I still own a home there.  I have many dear friends to see the city that has such a huge piece of my heart under water is devastating.

Like many of us, I have many friends who have lost everything in the floods.  Like you, I want to know what I can do to help.  I was in Nashville's what I learned...  that is the website for Hands on Nashville..they are a non profit who works to ensure that volunteers are placed in an organized can also make cash donations--and all those funds are used immediately and in the Nashville area.

On a lighter note...Happy Cinco De Mayo!  Here's a tip:  for easy guacamole:  2 avacados, about 4 heaping tablespoons of medium chunky salsa, salt, pepper, the juice of a lime, and some sour cream...its awesome!  If you're not a salsa'll like this:  corn tortillas, fried in oil till they bubble, take out, blot with paper towels, drizzle with honey and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar--as my son says YUM!

Have a great day!

Here we are...another week!  But I'm so excited because we start the Mix 99.3 $1,000 Triple Play Today!!  If you're anything like me, $1,000 is life changing money!  I start dreaming of all the things I could do with an extra grand...and then it dawns on me that I'm GIVING it away...!  Hopefully you'll do something fun with at least part of it when you win!!

Was this weekend's weather weird or what?  After such a snowy winter, we've been pretty lucky as far as severe storms...we dodged a big bullet...big sigh of relief!

Bret Michaels is on my mind...of course he's the front man of Poison, and on the Celebrity Apprentice right now...but he's in an "undisclosed location" following a brain hemorrage this past Friday...get well soon, Bret!

Its Bravo TV Week here on Mix 99.3!  We'll talk with Jill Zarin and Alex McCord from the Real Housewives of NYC about their books, their lives, and what its really like to be followed by cameras 24/7...and Andy Cohen will join us later in the week, talking about a special Kentucky Derby show they are putting on...Andy is sort of the face of Bravo...he hosts the "Reunion" shows..and his "Watch What Happens Live" which is just pretty funny.

Be listening up for those first 3 songs!!

Good Luck!

Short blog today...if you've ever experienced know how brutal they can be.  Well, welcome to my world...I am hiding in dark rooms and wearing sunglasses!  Overkill?  Maybe...but I never believed in migraines until they happened to me!  If you're a sufferer...I am with ya

Have a great Earth Day!

Hi Again!  Hope you had a great weekend!!

This is also "Organize Your Files Week..." and if you're anything like me...organization is something you somehow hope that will happen but keep waiting for...Maybe these tips will help you!

Organize Your Files Week -- The third week in April. Eileen Roth, author of "Organizing for Dummies," recommends these quick checklists to get organized.

Use W-A-S-T-E to decide whether something's worth keeping:

  • W -- Worthwhile. If the item isn't worth saving, toss it. If it is, move on to the next four questions.
  • A -- Again. Will you use this item more than once?
  • S -- Somewhere else. Can you find it somewhere else or borrow it if you need it?
  • T -- Toss. Will anything happen if you throw it out? If you need it for tax or legal reasons, for example, keep it.
  • E -- Entire. Do you need the whole thing, the complete catalog, for example, when you only want to order from one page? If not, keep what you need and toss the rest.

Use R-E-M-O-V-E to clear off your desk:

  • R -- Reduce all the distractions on your desktop, such as knickknacks or this morning's mail. Put them on top of a file cabinet or bookcase instead.
  • E -- Everyday use. Only keep things you use often on top of your desk.
  • M -- Move items to the preferred side, whether you're a "righty" or "lefty." Put the phones, pens, pencils and pads within easy reach. Put the telephone on the opposite side so you can write with your preferred hand.
  • O -- Organize like items together so you can find them easily.
  • V -- View your time. Keep an organizer and clock on your desk.
  • E -- Empty the center. Clear off space in the middle of your desk so you can work on the project at hand.

Use R-A-P-I-D Response to sort mail and create stacks for each category:

  • R -- Read. Magazines, newsletters, etc.
  • A -- Attend. Notices and invitations for seminars, workshops, meetings.
  • P -- Pay. Bills.
  • I -- Important. All unknown incoming mail that needs sorting.
  • D -- Dump. Mail you know you won't read or need.

Meanwhile...I'll keep waiting for the Organization Fairy to show up on my doorstep

Its Friday!!! April 16, 2010

Dear Mix 99.3

I just wanted to share a story about my 10 year old daughter Alison.  She was riding bikes with her 7 year old brother yesterday, when Colton fell.  Not only did she help him walk his bike back to the house, but insisted on helping me with cleaning his scrapes and putting on the band aids…the best part—seeing her give him a hug and telling him he was "gonna be all ok."  They really are my incredible kids!

Thanks for letting me brag!!

If you would like to share your story, you can email them to:

Last night was the hubby's birthday...Our son wanted to take him fishing, so that's what they did.  They didn't catch anything...but somehow they ended up with a bunch of leftover worms...which are now living in my refrigerator!!  Am I wrong in thinking that I don't want them there?  THEY ARE WORMS!!  WORMS BELONG IN THE GROUND...NOT WITH MY PRODUCE!

Wednesday March 24, 2010

Good Morning!

I saw this article last night on  Its an article about a 14 year old girl who had gastric bypass surgery.

It broke my heart.

See...that girl was me.  For a long time.  I was 30 years old and 356 pounds when I had gastric bypass surgery.  I truly believe it saved my life.

Weight is my biggest struggle.  It is for so many of us.  I often wonder why.  When you think about it, weight is the last big (excuse the pun) acceptable form of discrimination.  And yes, I did feel discriminated against.  Think about it--if you use slang for an ethnic group, you can pretty much be sure that you will catch some deserved flack for it.  However, if you saw me in the day and said "Wow, she's fat," no one would have blinked an eye.

I had to have seatbelt extenders on airplanes.  I was the girl you prayed would not be in the seat next to you...I feared turnstiles...and I would size up tables at restaurants--praying the chairs wouldn't break, and avoiding places with only booths.

When I had my surgery, I had a lot of friends tell me I was making a huge mistake.  One of my best friends was very against it.  I asked her, if I had cancer, would she want me to have chemo, knowing that it could make me sick.  She said "of course."  I explained the weight was MY cancer...and it was killing me.

Something interesting happened as I started to lose weight...I got noticed.  Men opened doors for me.  I started to wear colors other than black...I couldn't hide behind my body.

So now...I'm a hundred and fifty pounds lighter...but I'll never be "thin" and that's ok.  I'm just going for "healthy."  Thats good enough for me.

I'm a believer that gastric bypass can make a difference.  It can save lives.  But there is a huge responsibility that goes with it.  You can't eat like you did before...In my case...I'm always body thermometer is always whacked out...and I have become hypoglycemic.  I have to eat, all day long, or my blood sugar will tank.

But its better than it was.  I can move.  I don't need an airplane seat extender, and I'm not a ticking time bomb.

Why am I blogging about this?  Because your health is important.  People ask me about gastric bypass all of the time...And I say's NOT for everyone.  It's NOT a magic pill.  It's NOT a quick fix.  If its something you're considering, do your homework, have a support group of friends and family, and go in with realistic expectations.

But also know this.  Weight doesn't change who you are.  Your head and your heart are the same.  I still go in the plus section first to buy clothes.  I still look in the mirror and see the fat girl staring back.  I still have all the same insecurities.  I'm still human.

And I pray I always will be.

Your thoughts?

PS--Happy Birthday Hubby!  I Love you!

Monday March 22. 2010

Happy Monday...yah, I know...monnnnnday.  Was one of those nights for me when I just couldn't sleep.  You ever have a night like that?  You know, where you keep looking at the clock, and it's only 15 minutes later than the last time you looked?  I definitely feel a nap in my future!

Our Twitter account is up and running this morning!  Follow our tweets at, we are   We are following a lot of your fave artists including Lady Gaga, Orianthi, and David Cook.  I love Twitter--instant gratification, I'm all about it!

Did you know we Americans spend about 18 weeks a year--yes 18 WEEKS...goofing off at work?  Here's what we're doing:

  • Lounging at the water fountain, coffee pot or smoking area
  • Hiding in the rest room
  • Gossiping about co-workers
  • Complaining about the boss
  • Making personal calls on company time
  • Daydreaming
  • Flirting
  • Surfing the web

Have you checked out that new show "Undercover Boss?"  Its really good! The owners of huge corporations go undercover to see what really is happening in the trenches of their companies...Got me wondering, if you could let the Big Wigs of your company know anything about your job or  their company...what would it be?  Here's Amanda's thoughts:

You must have Flash in order to listen to this audio file.

Check out the show by clicking here: --then look for "Undercover Boss" under "shows"

Oh yeah, one more thing...there's a bit of slushy snow...nothing to worry about, no accumulation expected...schools are open and on time..roads look good...but let's face it, people act differently when they hear the word "snow..." so give yourself some extra time and space on the roads.

Here's to a great week!

March 19, 2010

Well hi there!  I just finished my first week of hosting the new Mix 99.3 Morning Show, and I have to admit, it's been a whirlwind!  Thank you to everyone who's been so patient with me...I really appreciate your kind words and encouragement.

This morning we talked about a friend who is having issues getting her 3 year old daughter to sleep in her own bed...since I have never raised little ones (I inherited older kids) I was at a loss...but YOU sure weren't!  We had some great suggestions, including this one:

You must have Flash in order to listen to this audio file.

We are on Twitter!!  Follow my tweets!

Remember:  Gordon Stack is out this afternoon at the Community Complex...and then tomorrow morning at SMHS for the TN AAU Wrestling Match.

I'm gonna attempt to get motivated and work out...I just joined the Wellness Complex...I realllllly need it!  But I just HATE working out.  I'd much rather do the krispie kream dunk than squats.  Just me??

Have a wonderful weekend!  Share your thoughts at

Hi there....

I'm Stace.  I've just been handed over the keys to the Mix Morning Show from my good friend, Allen Rantz.  I'm really sad to see Allen move on...but, as his friend, I can tell you that the opportunity which presented itself for him at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum is the PERFECT job for him!  I know that I have spend many evenings chilling with Allen, talking about our mutual love and passion for all kinds of music...Allen has a mind like an encyclopedia when it comes to rock and roll facts and trivia!  Seriously, NEVER challenge him to a game of rock WON'T be pretty...!!  So, for him to be able to work for the MECCA of all things Rock, it really is a dream come true, and I'm smiling for him, behind the tears I'm shedding for the friend I'll miss.

That said...yeah, I've done radio for awhile now!  In fact, the only thing I've ever wanted to do, was to be on the air.  I have an uncle who owned stations in Las Vegas and was even a newscaster...I think maybe that's where the idea was planted into my young brain...either way, I remember taping the DJ's I loved listening to...I used to try to talk like them...come up with things I thought were interesting about my favorite artists and songs...and tried to "dj."  It was so funny to my family that one year I got a Michael Jackson Mr Microphone for Christmas!  I was 16!  The joke was on them, cuz look what happened!  And yes, I DO still have the Mr Microphone!

Thanks to radio, I've been blessed to live all over the country...I grew up in Upland, California.  As any Californian will tell you, there are 2 Californias...Northern and Southern.  I'm a Southerner.  My family moved to Onalaska, Washington my sophomore year in high school.  I went from having over 1,000 kids in my freshman class to 40, yes 40, in my graduating class.  Onalaska is the ultimate small town--no stop light, but there is a stop sign...there's a tavern, a small mom and pop grocery store, a bigger mom and pop grocery store, gas station, post office, laundry mat, volunteer fire station, another tavern, a saw mill, and 5 churches.  Oh yeah, and the school.  The thing that makes me laugh is that the gas station burned down--it was right across the street from the fire station.  THAT's a small town!

From high school, I went to college at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA.  There were 4 radio broadcast majors there...I'm the only one to actually work in radio, and I was the only girl.  I studied broadcast communications, political science, and economics.  I also had a minor in theater.  I went back to school a couple of years ago, and now I have a degree in business administration that I can add to the mix.

In addition to Washington, I've lived and worked in Memphis, Tallahassee, Florida, Appleton, Wisconsin, Wichita, Kansas, Portland, Maine, and Nashville.  I've worked in every kind of radio from news talk to country to rock, to top 40, and even Christian.  It's been a lot of fun.

People ask me if I've ever met anyone famous.  Yep, I have.  Some of my favorites include Journey, who are still my favorite band, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Keith Urban (one of the nicest guys ever--and pretty easy on the eyes!)  & Shania Twain, to name a few.  Shania was wearing almost no make up and was STUNNING.  She was also very sweet.

Since coming to Crossville...I've gotten married!  My husband, Gary has blessed me with 12, yes 12, kids, and 7 grandkids!  The 7 grandkids include 2 sets of twins!  Once I learned everyone's name, I felt a lot better!  He's my best friend, always makes me smile, and one of the hardest working people I've ever met.  I'm truly blessed!  Our son lives with us...he's active in football and karate...and I have to admit, his math homework is really tough!!

We have 2 furry children--Penny Lane the Wonder Dachsund and Dog the Super Dog.  They keep us laughing, and are amazing pups!

I'm addicted to reality TV.  I love Survivor, Celebrity Apprentice, Amazing Race, The Real Housewives...and Days of Our Lives, which isn't reality TV, but its jusut GOOD!  Oh yeah, and HOUSE!  I got into House when I was laid off a few years ago...nothing like Unemployment to get you into a new show!

So, that's me...this is my BLOG.  You'll find show notes, links to things talked about on the show...and your thoughts and comments as well.  It's a work in thank you for your patience!

Here's to a new day and a new, exciting ride!  Here we go!!
